The old, the new and the yet to be...

Tallest about 6" and shortest about 4" these are the littlest of the LFG's

I am once again on the manic path of moving, starting new projects and organizing the old stuff. The prospect of a new place to call home always stirs the need to organize and stream line the stuff. What do I really need? Most of the time a cup of tea so I can make it through the project with out falling down. What I did get done today is some price cards so that the LFG's can get out of their storage box and go hang with Karen at Ainsworth. So here is the card for the littlest of the guys.

On the way to my other life I had a few minutes to have a cup of coffee and make plans for the week. Really it is just a rather organized to do list. Mostly it looks as if I need to get my custom stuff done...Christmas is coming...ack! Well the coffee was good and so was the rest of my day. My afternoons fly by and there is no time for drinking coffee little people make sure I am never bored. On my way home there was no stopping for coffee as I really needed to get home and cook dinner before I fell over. Low and behold the #9 bus that pulled up to my stop had my tea cozie on it. I have been waiting to see if it made it onto a bus. I have seen other buses that are advertising Christmas shopping on Grandville Island. Ainsworth the lovely shop that sells my stuff down there and they have my tea cozie as one of the things to promote their shop this holiday season. So if you are out and about maybe you will see the famous little cozie on a bus too. The lovely ladies at Shaktea have cozies too as well as REALLY good tea they are on Main Street.

This is my life these days constant piles of production. This pile is ready to go, actually that one went. There is a new pile waiting to go out the door in the am. Before I head out the door I will start in on yet another pile destined for one of three lovely shops that sell my various sundry items. There is also a small pile of custom work that is growing this is for trade with others that make beautiful things. Just because I was thinking there were a few brain cells left needing to be punished and over worked I have a painting in the works. Oh and I nearly forgot but there is a reworked cardigan on the cutting table making an attempt at a début before Christmas...there goes the remaining brain cells...oops

I woke up today and realized that it was the second of the month already. I missed taking a picture on the first so I took many, many photos today. It is hard to believe that I only have one more photo to add to this collection. The year has been a full one but it has passed so very quickly. The photo here is not the one I chose for the set but one of many I really like.

2011 YMCA Annual Campaign Silent Auction

In my other life I am an Early Childhood Educator. In short this means I get paid to play. I work with young kids at a YMCA daycare here in Vancouver. I have donated a cape to this years silent auction. The cape is #35 on the list.

Supports the YMCA’s Annual Campaign

Auction Opens at 9:00am on September 26th and closes at 3pm on September 30th

All proceeds of the 3rd Annual YMCA Online Auction will go to ensure no one is left out a YMCA opportunity because of financial need. 100 per cent of funds raised will be directed to kids who cannot afford YMCA programs and services like YMCA Camps or YMCA Sports Leagues Programs like soccer, swim lessons and softball.

Dress shop that keeps me going.

Twigg&Hottie have been carrying my stuff every fall for a few years now. They are great ladies. The renos they just did to the dress shop on Main Street here in Vancouver are spiffy. Go in and see all the wonderful stuff in the shop. Vancouver has some mighty fine designers and a few of them sell their wears in this fabulous boutique.

Thanks to all the wonderful people that keep me from being bored.

I went into my favourite bead shop Bead Freaks and she has new beads perfect for dreads. I might just have to get the wool out and stare a new LFG. Seeing I have so much spare time these days. Not!!!! I am keeping all the wonderful shops stocked as best I can. Fall is when fashion stuff finds it way back to Twigg&Hottie. Happy little tea cozies are keeping tea warm at Shaktea for when you stay and drink and there are ones you can buy to keep your Brown Betty tea pot warm at home. Ainsworth has various sundry items that I also need to keep on top of the stock for. Last but not least Walrus has those little felted soaps. If it was not for all the wonderful women and a fine man my stuff would not make it out in to the world. Oh yes one last person has a few of my things (my mom) the WiZard of Felt way over on the other side of the country in New Brunswick. If it was not for her (and my dad) there would not be me and therefore no stuff.

Here is my newest painting. This is form an ongoing series of paintings I have done for this family. For the children's fifth and twelfth birthday I have painted them a picture. So far I have done seven birthday pictures I have one more twelve year old painting to do (I have a couple of years before that is due). In their painting I can see what has changed about my style and what has stayed the same. They also have three other paintings of mine. One I did before going to art school and a portrait each of the dad and the mom (my friend since I was eleven) for their wedding and his fortieth. One day I might get it together and make an album of their collection For now here is child number three "Happy Twelfth Birthday".

For me that means I need to really get sewing production under way. Twigg&Hottie's revamped shop is where the bulk of the fashion is headed. I am starting off with the capes and some sweaters. Oh yes the sleeves will be back in there too. Once again I vow to stock pile so I am not constantly behind the eight ball. Maybe this year I can do it.

Art Buddies and Shops

I have been tweaking my blog. I made two link categories out of one. The list of People and Shops With Good Stuff was getting a bit long so I split them up into Art Buddie Stuff and Shops With Good Stuff. I have also added more Art Buddies sites to the list. My buddies work with all sorts of stuff, they write, they paint, they sculpt, they draw, they construct but they all create wonderful things and they all inspire me to trudge on and get the stuff done. Oh yes do check them out. The whole point of this post was to share my friends.

Soap production is getting serious this week

Was needing inspiration to get some felted soaps done. So I wandered down to MelonHead's studio with an arm load of fibre to process and cranked out a few small batts on drum carder. Four of the batts so far have turned into lovely felted soaps. Sixty six happy little soaps to be exact all waiting to get a bit dryer before I put on their (who are we and what to do with us) jackets. This batch is destined for Walrus as soon as they are dry enough to travel. Now I just need to go get more naked soap to felt up as I am all out.

The new business cards and the LFG postcards seem to have had a mishap. I got a note today from the print company that says the cards have been destroyed by the delivery courier because they encountered some problems making the delivery. They will reprint them and send them out again...so here is a little preview of what the new business card looks like...oh I hope they get here soon!!!!

So I finished the four LFG's that I started so long ago. Three hims and one her. They are holding back on giving their names out. Once I have got all that all sorted out I will post their individual pictures, with names, in the photo gallery of Little Felted Guys.

Today I got brave and ordered some business cards on line. I also had them make up a postcard of the LFG's above. They should be here the end of June. I am having it all printed on recycled paper (was excited about that option). My plan is to make a series of LFG postcards so that at least their images can get out into the world. Here is hoping it turns out all right. Will keep you posted.

The cute little cozies have made their way to Ainsworth on Grandville Island. Do not panic a supply is still with the wonderful women of Shaktea keeping the tea warm while you sit and sip. As well as some being available for you to take home to your own tea pot. They just decided they could branch out and meet some more people. The tourist and the art folk that venture around Grandville Island do not always come and check out our fantastic Main Street (even though they really should). So if you have a Brown Betty type tea pot or know some one who does there are tea cozies that are looking for loving homes. Go and visit them at the two location. You just never know what else you may find.

I am working on four LFG's right now they were all started about a year ago. Life happened and progress was held up. I have pulled them out of their bin and have started working on them again. I am hoping to get them finished before the Summer starts. My very wonderful friend Carmen of Melonhead Knitwear has invited me to come visit her while she is spinning away and work on my guys. I have taken her up on her offer so maybe the goal of done before Summer has a chance to get started.

I wandered into this tea shop a few years ago now looking for some tea. I like tea. The ladies at Shakea where so kind and every so excited about tea. Things have not changed over the years they still are excited about tea and are so kind. The Georgia Straight found them out and has written them up in their newspaper. Read the article and then go in and drink some tea. If you stay for tea your tea pot will be kept warm by one of my little tea cozies. I am so happy for Tanya and Maria and my tea cozies to make it in the the paper.

Hockey Sweaters

NFB has a wonderful short animation that most of us here in Canada all know and love The Sweater -by Sheldon Cohen based on the story The Hockey Sweater -by Roch Carrier. Granted Clothing has it posted on their blog so I am sharing it along. I love putting bits of hockey sweater in much of my Sorcerer's Apprentice stuff it makes me smile. So have a look and see if you spot a bit of old school hockey sweater in some thing you have of mine from cushion to tea cozy to cape and don't forget the dollies clothes they got some in there too.

A wonderful felter from Switzerland was out last summer. She taught me a different way to wet felt and she also got me so to do a little drop spindle spinning. She is an amazing artist. . I would invite you in but the muses have been at it again.

They are untidy fairies that have no regard for order.

After causing chaos they casually leave saying you are welcome.

If it were not for the evidence of the newly created I would not be able to stand the tornado stricken appearance of the floor.

I will invite you in another day. I just need the next week to find the house I used to live in before they descended and said "Put the kettle on you will need some tea."

I am working on a photo essay of self portraits to document 2011. On the first of the month I have been taking several photos. What is in common is that they are of me and taken by me on the first of the month. By the end of the year there may be more commonality. I am trying to let it be what it is going to be.

Dollie much loved

I am very proud of how well these dollies of mine have stood up to a good deal of play and love. This guy here resides up at UBC with three friend (dollie friends) at one of the child care centres. He and his friends have had much love. Thus he needed a little repair to his arm. All he needed was a few stitches and is as good as new. He is now all ready to be back with his buddies.

I am working on a batch of soaps fitting for the two days that have red themes in February. I think we are a familiar with the 14TH but on the 15TH we should stand proud and remember what Lester B. brought us. A flag of our own. February 15TH is National Flag Day here in Canada. So here is to RED and WHITE, and maybe a little pink too.

Here is a sneak peek on a painting (diptych) that is now months over due for the birthdays it was intended for. I am making good progress today but will give no grantees that it is going to be done before New Years Eve or Day for that matter. OK so it is just the pallet and the muddy water. I don't want spoil the surprise completely.

Shaktea tearoom has given cozies a job

Oh the little tea cozies are happy getting all kinds of attention on the tea pots of Shaktea while the costumers sip their tasty warm beverages. If you go to Shaktea website and look under TEAWEAR & ACCESSORIES you can see the most beautiful photo of one of the happy little cozies. If you go to the tea room you can have some lovely tea and see them up close and personal.

The six new ones (that bring the total to 50 so far) are making Ainsworth their new home for now. They are all girls. They will have some brothers as soon as I get the more ingredients for the boys. Just in case you did not know all their little bums are marked with my monogram and their number in the production line.

Here is the first of the new sweaters. While in New Brunswick I worked on the new design making the patterns for three sizes: Small, Medium, and Large. I am now sewing as fast as I can so Twigg and Hottie can have these for sale by the beginning of next week.

It was moving day August 3, 2010. Good-bye Silver Twinkie you have been a great studio but I am moving to a place slightly bigger in the city. That little boy on the step is my very wonderful assistant. He has helped me sew and felt over the last year also helped with moving all those bins with his wagon. I will miss him too and his wonderful family.

While I was packing for Toronto Leonard decided he would hop into my suitcase . A few years ago Michel and his Mother (Kimberly) had come out to Vancouver for a working visit. Leonard had remembered how fun Michel was and decided to go and live with him. I am happy to say they have become fast friends. I feel confidant Michel will take good care of Leonard.

Well I have arrived in New Brunswick. I am staying with the WiZard of Felt (she is my mom). We went to my first East Coast market in Kingston Peninsula yesterday. It was cool and windy. In the photo mom is wearing one of my capes and one of her sweaters to keep warm. I met lots of fun vendors there.
